Mark Jerram, founder of the BIHA The British Inflatable Hirers
Association, now the British Inflatable Hirers Alliance (BIHA) was launched in December 2000, by the founder, Mark Jerram, and thirty Founder Member companies from all around the
Before the BIHA, there was no
central organisation for inflatable operators to get advice and help on subjects
such as PL insurance and terms and conditions of hire. Also, many newcomers into the industry had no
formal guidelines as to the do’s and don’ts of how to correctly (and safely) set
up a bouncy castle or other play inflatable. In addition, many newcomers did not know how
to correctly market and advertise their business to give them the best possible
chance of success. The BIHA has been successful in
bringing the inflatable hire industry together so that information and ideas can
be widely shared amongst the members. Importantly, much of the loneliness and
isolation that some operators have experienced has largely disappeared as soon
as they joined the BIHA.
The BIHA has been particularly
focused on getting PL insurance premiums lowered (which has happened in March
2004). Also the BIHA is focused on
improving overall safety standards within the industry. Safety cartoons have been designed to
communicate the safety message to people of all ages (including children). The BIHA also support and recommend the new
PIPA scheme (Best Practice) for the testing and certification of bouncy castles

the BIHA is as follows: The
mission of the BIHA is to encourage success for its members through continuous
education, promotion and networking. The
BIHA has now grown to over 2,200 British members (as at April 2007). However, many operators from overseas are now
enquiring about membership and are eager to learn how they can make their own
hire businesses safer and more profitable. If
