April 2005

WARNING – BEWARE OF “TOY” BOUNCY CASTLES. (They are not robust enough, and not legal for the UK hire market).

URGENT SAFETY NOTICE:

It has come to the attention of the BIHA that there are cheap imitation imported bouncy castles currently on the UK market. These are TOYS and are not designed for commercial hiring, (only light domestic use) as they do not comply with the necessary standards for the hire industry. To view these standards (known as CEN TC 136) please visit: www.pipa.org.uk All persons hiring out bouncy castles and other play inflatables are required by law to comply with the Health & Safety At Work Act 1974. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has stated that those complying with CEN TC 136 will be meeting their obligations under this Act.

Apparently, several hire companies are having to buy again after unwisely investing in these cheap toy inflatables, and discovering now that they are not of a robust commercial standard to hire out to the public.

PIPA update from Clive Moss (August 2005)

I promised some time back to allow listing of operators who have PIPA tagged kit on the site.

The coding is now done and any tests from now on will include the operator (if known) and they will automatically appear on the list.

Now we have to get all of you who have already got tagged units listed:- You can add your own company to the list by going to http://www.pipa.org.uk/operators.asp where you will find a form to do so. You will need a tag number and its matching certificate and the name of the inspecting body.

The page will not be readily accessible from the main site until we have a few names listed so you will have to use the link above or type it exactly as is into the address bar of your browser.

It took a while, but I got there eventually.....

Clive Moss

The PIPA committee meeting originally planned for 18th August has been moved to the 1st September 2005 in Stratford-Upon Avon, Warwickshire.

If you have any questions or concerns which you would like me to put forward at this committee meeting, please email them to me before 31st August.

My email is: mark.jerram@ntlworld.com

"I was amazed on Sunday morning when I received a telephone call from a potential customer who had found my company details on the BIHA website and I had only been listed for 48 hours. To everyone out there who is thinking of joining, it will be the best money you have spent in a long time.

This free ebook “How to turbo-charge your profits from hiring inflatables” is a fantastic piece of work and a "must read" for all new hirers. This report genuinely saves you time and makes you money which far far outweighs the subscription fee. Thank you Mark and thank you to everyone who contributed to this eBook. "
